Would be perfect IF the clamp was flush with the surface of the pin.
Great overall pin, large, lots of clever holes... problem is that if you donโt want to screw it to your bench (I bought for portability) the clamp is going to protrude enough to eventually mar your work if of a certain dimension. And as it it not slanted there is no way you can avoid that...I have started to file it down but I only have metal files the wood is hard and it takes forever. This is an easy fix for the manufacturer : make a deeper groove! Please it would then be perfect.

Nice solid bench pin.
This is my first bench pin, and find it really handy for working with the thin sheet metal I use to build brass models. My filing is much more precise now that it is properly supported, and I no longer bend the metal by having the file catch as it did when I would clamp it in a vise. The clamp and wood are of good quality. I made one modification buy chiseling down the groove until the clamp set flush with the top of the block. If you don't do this, the clamp stands proud about 3/32". Since I work with 4 X6" pieces of metal this would get in the way; if your projects are smaller then this is not necessary. With a sharp wood chisel, the wood pared down easily and I think it took me around 5 minutes to increase the depth of the groove.

Pretty much perfection!
Having a solid maple worktable (NOT a proper jewelers bench), which has casters on its legs, plus the fact that the table rests on carpet, I was concerned that attaching this with the included clamp would still result in a wobbly worksurface. No worries! I've been using it for a couple weeks now, along with the spectacular GreenLion jewelers saw, and it's just perfect, everything holds steady, without having to drill a mounting bracket it into place. This is ideal, allowing me to easily remove it when necessary. I also love that this was designed by the amazing Thomas Mann, maker of some of my very favorite metal jewelry designs, circa 1990s.

Works as designed. No issue
Just what I needed for jewelry making. As expected.

Worthless as received!
Since the box it came in was undamaged, I believe the product was shipped in this broken state. I think the design inherently produces stress risers in this hard maple wood. I will glue it and fix it, but it will become a template for my personal use!
