Savic Ruffy 2 Navy Blue Rat And Ferret Cage 80 X 50 X 38 Cm

I've had this cage now for about 2 weeks. I ordered it for my first Syrian hamster who is a long haired one.I originally wanted the Savic Hamster Heaven, which I ordered from Pets at Home. It arrived badly broken. After seeing it, I changed my mind about it because I decided I wanted a simpler cage without all the fancy tubes. Instead, I ordered this one from Amazon. The first one arrived broken as well! Savic make some good cages, but wow, they don't half package them badly! This company needs to learn about the wonder that is bubble wrap. :-/ Thankfully, I was third time lucky and the second one arrived in perfect condition. Mine is not the same colours as in the photo, mine has black bars and a dark grey base.PROS: - It's enormous! So much room for him to burrow and run around. It meets the RSPCA guidelines for Syrian hamster cage size. - Considering its size, I think it's good value, although obviously, you have to spend extra money on accessories for your hamster (food bowl, hamster house, toys etc). The tunnel and water bottle that come with it are way too big for a hamster, so you'll need to buy hamster size ones. - you can buy shelves to fit in the cage too. I bought Harrison Hamster corner cage shelves from Amazon. I haven't figured out how to attach them securely in the cage yet (as they only sit on the bars) but they do fit the cage, so that's good if you want to add extra levels in there. - the fact that it's quite plain looking is good if, like me, you're an adult hamster owner and don't want a cage that looks too childish.CONS: - Because the door is on the top of the cage (instead of on the side like many cages) it's difficult to get both your arms in there to pick him up. I'm in the process of taming my hamster so I have to get him inside a little box and lift the box out of the cage, and then put that inside a separate "taming box", which I made for him (it's a large, clear plastic box which I filled with bedding and a couple of toys), where I can pick him up more easily and he can get used to being stroked and handled. - It was very frustrating that the first one arrived broken as it delayed getting my hamster. The packaging of Savic cages is terrible. But, at least, an Amazon courier comes and picks up the broken one, as taking such a huge one to the Post Office would have been really stressful. - the fact that it's so huge means it needs a LOT of bedding. However, you can buy it in bulk to save a lot of money (I bought a large bale of Fitch recycled paper bedding from Amazon. It was £15 but should last for a few months).Basically, it's not perfect, but it's a really great cage, and I don't think I could have found a better one. My hamster certainly seems happy in it! :)

Although this cage is quite large, it would, in my opinion be more suited for hamsters and not Rats, as it would not be big enough to keep Rats in on a permanent basis. I like this cage, it is quite sturdy and has very handy handles which makes it easier to move about. I just wish it had an opening on the side though, in order to make reaching in the cage to catch, or feed your pet that little bit easier. Apart from that I am very happy with this cage but,as I said, only for Hamsters.

Cage damaged on delivery not fit for purpose

After looking around for a suitable hamster cage for a syrian, I came across this one and the price seemed worth it for the size. It comes with of course the cage, waterbottle, tunnel (for rats but is suitable for a hamster) and carry handles - which are brilliant for moving this cage around!It does not come with instructions of how to assemble it and at first I struggled attaching the wire top of the cage to the base, but soon found out that you have to really pull down on the clips and push them under the plastic lip of the base until you here a little pop - Once this has been established it is easy to do again.The clip on the door situated at the top of the cage, is really handy and prevents escapes. However, again at first I struggled to work out how to open the door and take the clip off, but after a little while I realised you have to pull the clip forward from the back lip and then it will come loose and from there you open the door.As someone else stated the colour of the cage in the picture does not match the colour that came, mine has a light grey coloured base with navy blue bars - it is actually quite nice - and the tunnel was blue and yellow.If you are considering buying this cage for rats my advice would be do not it really is too small, unless as other reviews have said the rats are nursing, sick or old then this cage would be okay.When I brought the hamster home from the pet shop and put him in the cage the first thing he did was climb the bars (which are spaced appopriatley and a hamster will not be able to squeeze through) my hamster (Fergal) seems to enjoy climbing the bars as a past-time so you are really getting a toy for your hamster aswell!Overall, this cage is really good value for an appropriate sized syrian hamster cage (most cages marketed for syrians are actually too small) but if you are looking for a cage for healthy rats then I am afraid this is not for you.

Poorly packed but OK cage, good space but the drawback is it is top opening so cant be stacked and it's not easy to get your furry friend out of the cage.

This is the second hamster cage I have ordered. The first was faulty and had to be returned. This cage is great for a syrian, big, sturdy and delivered very quickly. However, the photo on Amazon shows a yellow base with a pink and yellow tunnel. We received a grey base with a blue and yellow tunnel. Unimportant maybe for a hamster, but my five year old daughter who wanted a girly cage for 'Jewel' was gutted. Just something to bear in mind if you have set your heart on the advertised product.

A fantastic value large cage for a syrian, definitely not for rats but a perfect size for an active curious hamster. The cage is very secure with a built in lock to stop escapes which I know is every rodent owners nightmare..It has a lovely large base so to prevent bedding from being kicked out. It's very adaptable and can fit ledges and shelves inside to enhance its size.The only poor points I can find is the water bottle that it comes with is far too big and mine was drippy and it would be lovely to have a side door. But apart from that it is very good valueAmazon posted quickly and in perfect packaging with styrofoam on the cage edges to prevent chips and breaks..

Big cage, ideal for my Syrian hamster. Wish it had a side door, but besides that it's perfect!
