Effective and very safe to operate
This device has been excellent so far. In the past I used the simple and cheap wooden rat traps. The one’s that almost take your fingers off every time you try to set them. Whilst they were effective I didn’t like the thought that I might lose a digit in the process. Also I had to put on disposable gloves when removing the dead rat as I nearly always had to come into contact with them when removing them from the trap. Also the overly-sensitive traps often went off without a rat being anywhere near. This device is similar to the wooden ones in that it has an arm that gets pulled back into position and then activates when anything touches a small platform containing the food. However the really excellent thing about this design is that the whole process occurs inside a box and that the trap can be set with the box closed by pulling a plastic strip until you hear the device click into the set position. Your fingers are therefore nowhere near the actual trap and there is no chance whatsoever of getting your fingers damaged. The other great thing about this trap is that when you come to dispose of the captured rat you can lower the whole box into a bag and then pull the plastic strip which opens the trap and lets the late rat drop into the bag without your hands being anywhere near it.As for actually catching rats the story has been nearly all positive. We had a large rat coming into our garden to pick up the scraps of food that the birds had dropped from our bird feeder. A few days on and my wife spotted a smaller rat also coming in to feed. I therefore got this trap to nip things in the bud before an infestation occurred. I used peanut butter and oats as bait and in the first 24 hours I caught 2 small rats and in the next 24 I caught another small rat. That makes 3 rats in 2 days which is excellent going. My only doubt about the device is that we have not yet determined whether it can catch larger rats as the bigger rat hasn’t been seen for a few days now. It may simply be it has been scared off by the sight of 3 smaller rats being caught but I would have liked to have seen if the device can cope with a much bigger rat.Overall I thoroughly recommend this device for all the reasons above. Given it’s effectiveness and safety it is well worth paying a bit more than the cheaper but less effective and more dangerous traps.

As described
Well designed easy to set up and place ,I'm not sure if it would deal with an adult brown Rat ; but seems to handle small to medium without any problem

very good and sturdy
does the job well and works with big rats as well and very easy to see if its triggered by the long red zip-tie

Solid build quality.
Decent set of traps, the trap boxes also work well as bait stations if you use an upright screw as a post for bait blocks should you decide to switch from trapping to rodenticides.Bear in mind these are sized for rats and may not kill mice outright if it snaps onto a limb due to the weight difference - be sure to get the right size trap for whatever it is you're trying to control.

Useless for Rats...
Easy to setup and use, but useless as a Rat Trap. The bar which 'slams' onto the rat/prey is not a solid bar and has a break down the middle. Its held 'together' by the red plastic strip (in the product pictures), but this is nowhere near strong enough to hold down a rat let alone defeat it.I set up a wildlife camera to keep an eye on the trap. A couple of nights in, player one arrived and entered the arena. Next thing I hear...SNAP!. As im watching the camera a mix of emotions run over me. Sadness for the loss of player one. Game over. Watching his little lifeless body lie there. But also a small sense of joy, knowing my children can play outside without the worry of vermin crawling all over their toys. However the story does not end here. I had only penetrated the shield of player one, dazed/stunned, he still had hit points remaining. It took him a mere 30 seconds to catch his breath, fire off his ultimate ability and pry his head from the jaws of defeat. As I watched him emerge from the box, I feel he almost winked at the camera, as if toying with me, before scurrying off to the next level. Now I must continue my search for something stronger, sturdier and more lethal if I am to defeat my foe and reclaim my garden, as this product certainly does not cut it.

Rat not interested
While the product is fairly good overall it appears the rat is not interested in going inside it. It has been baited with peanut butter, using rubber gloves so no human scent, and left in a path that the rat takes. Have a camera watching it and the rat will not go inside it. Have tried leaving a rich banquet and an ALL YOU CAN EAT sign but no, it is ignored.Going to try something a bit more open instead of a trap inside a box!

PERSEVERE IT WORKS!!
I was in the process of returning this trap. Not anymore!! It caught the big bugger!! After a few days I was about to give up when viewed the big bugger just helping himself to the bait, leaving then returning to take more at least three times!! There's the clue, don't over stuff with bait, make them work harder then BINGO!!! Result Bloody marvellous. Highly recommend.x
