Great product, works very well and looks good
I received this product for free in exchange for an unbiased review. The product arrived promptly with a Type-C to Type-C cable included in the box.I happen to have a tablet by Asus which uses a Type-C connector for charging and the first thing I tried was to put a disk in the case and connect to the tablet with the suppled cable. I am happy to report that it worked fine and the tablet immediately identified it as an external storage device and all the files on my SSD appeared in the tablet's file manager. This may not work with an HDD in the enclosure because the power consumption is significantly higher and a tablet may not be able to supply it via its USB port.I had to buy a separate USB3.0 Type-A to Type-C cable to connect it to my PC and most likely, unless you have a fairly new device, you will need one also. I found this one to work for me without any issues and it also charges my Asus tablet without a problem. Anker USB-C to USB 3.0 Cable (3.3ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor, for USB Type-C Devices Including the new MacBook, ChromeBook Pixel, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nokia N1 Tablet, OnePlus 2 and More Before I talk about performance testing on the PC, I would like to address the overall construction and quality of the product. The top of the case as seen in the photos is made of aluminium and has a brushed finish similar to Apple Mac. For an HDD this would help with heat dissipation but since I am using an SSD, heat isn't a big factor and it has never felt warm to the touch. The underside of the case is made of plastic and slides off to provide access to the SATA connector. The SSD/HDD slides in place and secures firmly on the connector. The manufacturer provides an adhesive foam spacer for thin SSDs so they don't rattle in the case. This may not be necessary for HDD because they are a bit thicker. Although I am using the spacer, I have not stuck it to the SSD or lid, but simply put it between them as I was closing the lid. No rattling to report with this method and it saves you having to remove the glue if you ever want to install a thicker device inside. The plastic is of high quality and doesn't feel flimsy to the touch. I appreciate that for the price point, it would have been difficult to provide a full aluminium enclosure so I don't hold the use plastic as a negative, especially since it is well made and slides on and off easily when i want to change the device inside. Overall, it would look at home next to a Mac if aesthetics are a factor for the buyer, so I would recommend it based on looks in such case.In terms of performance, I am testing this on a NUC6i5SYK with native USB3.0 and I am getting 443MB/s average read which is what my SSD will do over SATA and what it used to do in the previous USB3.0 enclosure (also Inateck). I am attaching a photo with all the device capabilities as seen by Linux.Overall, I highly recommend this enclosure, especially for someone who is looking for a device that looks nice, isn't expensive and has good performance for SSD. If you happen to have a computer or any other device that has a Type-C connector, you won't even need to buy an extra cable to get it working. Given that such devices are not common, it is an odd choice that the manufacturer decided to supply Type-C to Type-C cable instead of a more common Type-C to Type-A. Having said that, although for me it worked well because I can use it with my tablet, for many users the cable won't be of any use and I would recommend that it is switched to a Type-A. I am giving it 5 stars because of its solid construction, good price and great performance. The cable is a minor problem that doesn't warrant removing a star as it will eventually come of use on new devices.

First unit defective; replacement worked fine.
Installed Intel SSD, but wasn't recognized by:-Windows 10 notebook-Windows 8.1 Pro desktop-Nexus 5x smartphone with native USB type C connector and OTG supportThe Intel SSD works fine when attached directly to the desktop, or via a SATA to USB3 converter but no luck with this enclosure.Assuming it worked, it would be an OK enclosure. Very small and looks fine. Although not requiring screws makes the install easier, it can't be as secure as one with screws. No mentioned in the directions about the need to use the bit of foam attached to your drive in order to keep it from flopping vertically in the enclosure. Again, screws would make this more secure. Removing a drive can be done by a gentle prying with a credit card near the SATA connector.12/18/2015 Update:Inateck kindly sent me a replacement, and based on my comments to them regarding that a cable terminating in USB 3 type A (the common one used on most PCs) made the most sense for the vast majority of customers right now, they sent me a slightly different model which met those requirements (model FE2005). This 2.5" enclosure is tool free as well and uses the traditional USB 3 Micro-B connector on the drive side rather than a USB type C. Mechanically, this one is a bit different than the previous one as a door opens in the back, and you slide your drive in until it seats in the connector. If you're using a 7mm drive, they include a piece of foam which you attach to the top of drive to limit vertical movement. It would also be wise to make a pull tab using packaging tape which you can attach to top and bottom at the end of the drive to make removal easier in the future. Put a new SSD in this enclosure, attached to computer, formatted and everything worked as expected.

Beautiful design and look must have external drive case for 2.5 standard SSD or HD
I can't say enough good things about this external drive. The top and sides are made of metal and the bottom of solid white plastic and the look is high quality for any desktop or next to a laptop. You slide the bottom part of the case out of the top metal sleeve attach your SSD or HD drive inside, for the smaller 2.5 SSD there is a piece of adhesive foam that you attach to the bottom for cushioning to keep the drive from rattling in the case. It slides across an etched rail on both sides the feel is solid, the case snaps into place without a worry of the top or bottom becoming detached and the unit opening. This has a Type C connector to USB 3.0 and i found the speeds to be acceptable and higher than the 2.0 standard. The size of this drive makes it an excellent option for on the go in a laptop bag or sleeve type case and gives you a portable back up. This is great for storing movies or music for when your traveling or just looking to share watch and listen at another persons house. Or just use it as your backup for your most sensitive information music, videos, photos, data etc.

Good enclosure, responds to both the USB-C to USB-C ...
Good enclosure, responds to both the USB-C to USB-C as well as USB-C to USB-A. very fast read/write speed. I can use it to run games from a separate hard drive to another computer.Corners of the enlclosure are pretty sharp, so be careful. Might want to take a file to them to smooth them out a bit. Also the enclosure I received does not snap very well to keep the HD secured. Way too easy to pull apart. Supplier needs to add some reinforcement to make the snap more rigid or extra engagement surface.Overall good for what it does, but could use some improvements
