It does not dynamically act like a freely flexible hose
Make sure you understand the construction and behavior of this product and determine if it is suitable for your use before purchasing. This product is not a conventional shop vacuum hose type of construction. Vacuum hoses are usually flexible PVC molded around a helically wound wire of medium gauge. This product has a very stiff polyethylene inner sleeve and a heavy exterior wire bonded to the plastic innards. It does not dynamically act like a freely flexible hose. It wants to be either collapsed or fully extended, i.e. it is bi-stable. When bent it wants to "kink" rather a lot at one particular spot instead of spreading the curve over a length. Because of the very heavy construction it would probably withstand more pressure (inside or outside) than more conventional hoses, if that is an attribute you seek. There also might be industrial uses for this hose since the polyethylene hose is much more chemically resistant than PVC, it would not be harmed by hydrocarbon solvents which would dissolve PVC. I purchased it to fabricate a hand held wand vacuum connected to my large dust collection system. It was immediately apparent on examining the product that it would be complete unsuitable for such a purpose. It simply is not flexible enough and is also very heavy compared to a normal shop vacuum type of hose.

very well made but already developed a hole; fault is probably my off-label application
I bought this to attach to my portable corded Toro leaf vacuum/blower.Reviewers' comments about Toro's own hose bagging gizmo were bleak, so I used this to design my own setup to blow shredded leaves into a trash can with my own design of a filter bag on top of the trash can. I think one problem was that I was also vacuuming small gravel and sticks, not simply dry leaves.I think this hose would do just fine for shop sawdust collection, as designed and marketed. This 3" diameter works very well with the amount of wind from my leaf vacuum, so the pneumatic aspect is good with my design. so there's that.I had to force fit the round hose onto a rectangular blower exhaust opening, so that may have caused some weakness where the hole developed. I will eventually improve my design, probably by fabricating my own sheet metal adapter, rectangular to round. The other end is attached to a round plastic adapter designed for use with this kind of hose, and with a hose clamp, as one might expect, and that end has no problem. At first, the hose wanted to retract back to its shrunken short length (like a Slinky), but with use, heat of the day, and constant extending during use, it easily stretched to its full 10' working length. Now it no longer wants to retract, which is not a problem. The wire is covered in thick black plastic. The hose itself is a milky white plastic, fairly thick. It is translucent so I can barely see when it gets clogged with leaves. Clogs only happen at the ends. On the far end, clogs occur where the hose hangs down with a sharp right angle bend. Not the fault of the hose. I should maybe put a 3" elbow there, but then I would not be able to see the clog. I do not think it would clog if I vacuumed only leaves; the clogs were full of partially ground tree twigs from a hail storm.Recommended good quality for sawdust collection.

Understand your use, and purchase the correct hose. This is a easy fix for uneven application.
People who say this hose won’t stay extended are correct. What I used it for that’s a plus, I’m using it for a snorkel. To keep it extended you will need to strap it. This is a heavy dusty hose, people who are trying to use it for a shopvac hose of corse it won’t work, this hose would be for connecting permanent installation, such as uneven connections, for my intake, it will be the best, I can use. I wanted it to contract in most places. So I am happy.

Super frustrating to use
OK, I tried to like this stuff but it is terrible! I don't normally say such bad things about products but I was so disappointed in this one. The hose is thick and should last for some time. It isn't in the durablity area that makes this so terrible. It is in the usefulness of the hose. It WILL NOT stay expanded and has a very strong force to return to it's collapsed state. I have fought and struggled with it and just is not worth messing with. It is hard to get it to slide onto connections because the folds of plastic bunch up on the inner diameter. I will store this now and only use it when I need to have a more permanent solution for a hose and can clamp it expanded to the wall.Do yourself a favor and look for something else.

Clear Color and thus hose works great.
This hose is shipped collapsed and likes to stay that way. I've extended this and within 1 minute it has returned to the collapsed state. Very difficult to keep extended to put on mating pipe and clamp in place. Tried expanding and hold in place and let it rest for a day to no avail. Tried expanding and heating up only to melt the plastic. In the collapsed state the id is too small to use on 2-1/2" pipe. This is worthless POS. Ended up getting the POWERTEC 70144 2-1/2-Inch x 20-Feet Flexible PVC Dust Collection Hose, Clear Color and thus hose works great.

A good 5" hose
I bought this hose a replacement for the hose on the portable AC unit in my garage. The hose is nicely constructed and feels like it will last a long time.

Buy for this use as a point to point duct, not for a Shop Vac pickup hose...
If you think this is hose suitable for a shop Vac you are right and wrong...this is NOT the hose to use as a debris pickup tool-you need to buy a much more flexible hose for that, and if you READ the description you notice that no where does it mention that use, it does how ever mention duct work use. This is made to go between two stationary points, not to be moved around with any regularity, it is made to be more rigid than that. I used it between a shop vac and a cyclone separator mounted above it. Using this as a duct is where it shines, it is not a pickup hose, and is not advertised as such...It is made to shrink back to its minimal length in the intended use to keep it from colapsing on itself and swaying and sagging all over everywhere. As such the ends must be well secured, and not simply stuck in place. This is a case where the right tool for the job is only found when you understand what the job the tool is designed for actually is. DO not buy this if you are looking to replace a shop vac hose-buy somethig intended for that purpose, buy this if you need to run a semi-permanent duct for a high volume of low pressure air.

Ferret tested and approved
I use these for my ferrets to play in. They seem to prefer these to the many other tubes they've had, and the various sizes accommodate my chubbiest of floofs.Unfortunately, they don't stay extended on their own, even if left stretched out and weighted for several days, so I can't benefit from the semi-transparency. However, their durability and how much my ferrets love them outweigh the drawback. They also don't have that awful plastic smell. I felt comfortable giving them to my pets immediately after unpacking.

Ok product but..
used this building vacuum system for my wood tools . Its a rigid product but tricky to work with on bends and awkward to get it to slide onto my standard tools such as router / planer /table saw.I think a slightly less thick option and more flexibility would be better .(eg similar to a shop vac hose )

Strong solid hose but it won't stay in the extended postion
Solid hose and very tough. The only issue is that it is very difficult to use this hose while extended because the hose always tries to pull itself back to the compressed size after it is stretched out. It wants to "pop" back into the compressed position.

Soooo stiff
Very stiff to the point where it's hard to work with it in any real way unless its completely stationary, at which point I would suggest ABS piping.

Extendable but wii retract back to it’s original shape
It’s a very good quality hose but don’t expect it to stretch to it’s potential length and stay extended it will retract like à slinky
